The Penn-Delco Board of School Directors Approves New Sun Valley High School Principal

The Penn-Delco Board of School Directors unanimously approved the hiring of Mr. John Paul Roskos as the next principal of Sun Valley High School in Aston, Pa. during their meeting on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

Mr. Roskos comes to Penn-Delco with experience as a principal at both the high school and elementary levels.  Before transitioning to administration, he held numerous teacher-leader positions and was a Health and Physical Education Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia.  Mr. Roskos is a proud alumni of Temple University and Gwynedd Mercy University, where he holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree and a Masters of Educational Administration degree.

“The district was fortunate to have an above-average level of interest in the Sun Valley Principal vacancy,” noted Penn-Delco Superintendent Dr. George Steinhoff.

“Mr. Roskos emerged among a talented field of applicants as a stand-out leader. His ability to articulate specific steps to continue to elevate the Sun Valley brand, particularly the academic experience of all of our students, was impressive.”

Mr. Roskos plans to build on existing school and district initiatives that have proven to be successful, but is also excited to collaborate around innovations that can improve student outcomes.

“I am looking forward to developing strong relationships with students, staff and families of Sun Valley so that we can continue to have the highest of expectations for our students,” said Mr. Roskos.

“It is my expectation that we all thrive towards making Sun Valley High School a community where everyone feels they belong and are included.  While there is much work for us to do while still in the midst of the pandemic, I know the Sun Valley community will continue to rally around student success.  I am excited to help lead that work.”

Dr. Steinhoff is confident that Mr. Roskos will lead Sun Valley High School in its continued success in improving student outcomes.  “Mr. Roskos is a lifelong educator who understands the importance of all aspects of the high school experience for students,” he said.  “He views athletics, arts, activities and increasing student involvement in school extra curriculars as key components to school spirit and student pride in themselves and their school community. Through several layers of interviews and conversations, Mr. Roskos was able to give specific and solution-oriented examples of his work as a school administrator, which is a positive indicator of a person with true lived experiences as a leader.”

Mr. Roskos will begin working with staff and students when he begins his term as Sun Valley Principal March 21, 2022.
