Message from the Principal
Hello Parkside! I am excited and honored to lead the Parkside team beginning this 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to building relationships with the students, parents, teachers, staff and community that make Parkside “the little school with the big heart,” and to continue to enhance the educational experiences of all students. As a parent of a Northley 8th grader and a Sun Valley 10th grader, I value Parkside’s commitment to educating the whole child and recognize the necessity to enrich the social, emotional and behavioral needs of our children as well as their academics. In addition, my 14 years teaching English at Sun Valley High School and my 4 years serving as the Assistant Principal at Northley Middle School have given me the opportunity to see what a graduate needs to know and be able to do at the culmination of their Penn-Delco career. Bringing that knowledge to the elementary arena, coupled with the ongoing dedication and expertise of the Parkside educational staff will continue the atmosphere of strong academic success. I have been a Vanguard and a Viking, but 2018 begins my journey as a Panther!
I am proud to join the Parkside Elementary School team where all stakeholders work together to help students achieve, succeed, and excel in alignment with the Penn-Delco School District’s 5 Keys to Excellence as well as the mission to enable all students to achieve, succeed, and excel. As a State and National School of Character, Parkside enriches the behavioral, emotional, and social skills development of students. Coupled with a focus on core values and positive behavioral support, the school community’s commitment to the education of the whole child is truly impressive. This year, we will continue to build the PBIS program continuing the practice of recognizing students daily and monthly for modeling positive values and expected behaviors. Along with our academic focus, creating a school community where our school values of being “respectful, responsible, and safe” will continue to create an environment where academic growth is possible for all students. Keep an eye out for more information about the PBIS initiative from our PBIS Committee throughout the year.
Lastly, I encourage the school community to support PTL efforts and be actively involved. Their fundraisers directly support assemblies, events, and items for the students. For example, every student will receive a 2018/2019 Parkside T-Shirt to wear to school or special events and will be paid for by the Parkside PTL. The Parkside Elementary PTL continues to support initiatives, staff, and students to ensure each child has a positive experience at school.
Thank you for welcoming me to your school community, I cannot wait to get started shaping the young hearts and minds of the Parkside students and to work with the truly dedicated teachers and staff here. I look forward to meeting and working with students and parents in September and beyond!
Sincerely,
Tara Young
