Aston and Parkside Elementary Schools participated in
an international art and literacy project, Pinwheels
for Peace, by “planting” pinwheels with
messages of peace on their school grounds to share with the community.
Throughout the day, Aston and Parkside students created hundreds of pinwheels of all shapes and sizes. Students wrote
their thoughts about what peace means to them and colored them to visually
express their feelings. The students assembled their pinwheels
and “planted" them on school grounds as a public statement and art
installation to show their support for world peace. This year, the students at
Parkside once again placed their pinwheels in
the shape of a peace sign around the flagpole in front of the school. At Aston,
pinwheels were placed surrounding the school
sign for all of the community to see.
