Senator Tom Killion visits Pennell students Regarding State Rock
On June 13, Pennsylvania State Senator Tom Killion visited the students in Mr. Derek Sciecinski’s first grade class to speak with the students regarding a piece of legislation that he will be presenting to name Quartz as the state rock of Pennsylvania. The draft of legislation is the result of the students’ research and a video presentation that the students shared via twitter. The video caught the Senator’s attention and he was very impressed with their research. During his visit, he explained to the students how a bill is presented and voted on in the State Senate. He mentioned that he will be sharing the students’ video with all of the state senators in Pennsylvania in hopes that they will support his bill to name Quartz as the state rock of Pennsylvania. Senator Killion also presented each student with a certificate for their hard work. It was a very exciting moment for the students, Mr. Sciecinski and Pennell Elementary!
