Sun Valley Wins Turkey Bowl

Sun Valley gets to keep the trophy! The Vanguards defeated Chichester in this year’s Turkey Bowl! They beat Chi 20-7 in the exciting match up held on Thanksgiving Day. Congratulations to the entire team! This Turkey bowl was extra special because Sun Valley High School and Chichester High school came together to welcome Cameron McCarthy and her family to the game. Cameron is a 2nd grader at Pennell Elementary and has courageously been battling a rare form of bone cancer. Cameron and her brother Matthew McCarthy were made honorary captains of the 2015 Turkey Bowl. Players from both teams wore light blue ‪#‎TeamCameron‬ stickers on their helmets and were pleased to have Cameron and Matthew participate in the opening coin toss. Special markings were added to the field including a light blue “50” at the 50-yard line and a special light blue “C” for Cameron. The student sections from both schools gave Cameron and her brother a standing ovation as they took the field for the coin toss. It was a great day of football and a great way to honor a special little girl and help raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
