NMS Students Prepare Turkey Dinner

The students in the Community Based Instruction program at Northley have been preparing for their first Thanksgiving feast for over a month now. They developed a menu, shopping list, discussed appropriate table manners, and followed recipes to make all the menu items from scratch. In an effort to help encourage independence, students took part in setting a table properly, preparing and setting up food stations, finding their name on place cards, making conversation with the people sitting near them, and cleaning up after themselves; in hopes these skills will carry over to their own Thanksgiving festivities. In class, students have been discussing the meaning of Thanksgiving and before dinner, each student and staff member shared what he or she was thankful for. It was a great success and students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
