Congratulations to our Presidential Award Recipients

Congratulations to our President's Award for Educational Excellence Award Recipients.  

This year, 27 students from the Class of 2022 were honored with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence which is part of the President's Education Awards Program (PEAP) that was founded in 1983.

Per the program's website, the President's Education Awards Program (PEAP) honors graduating elementary, middle, and high school students for their achievement and hard work. The program has provided individual recognition from the President and the U.S. Secretary of Education to those students whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet challenging standards of excellence.

The President’s Award for Educational Excellence recognizes academic success in the classroom.  These students represent the top 10% of the Class of 2022 based on their academic achievements.  Congratulations to:

Michael Brown will further his education at Drexel University where he plans to major in Biology and eventually wants to go to medical school to study to become a neurosurgeon. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a Historian of the Science Honor Society. In his free time, he plays on the soccer team and is a member of the swim team, Unified Track Team, Hi-Q and Ultimate Frisbee Club. Michael received Drexel's Founder Scholarship and a Drexel Legacy Scholarship.

Nicole Buscaglia will major in Chemical Engineering at Drexel University. She would like to utilize math and science to help make life easier and healthier for all. She is involved in numerous school activities, including: National Honor Society Cabinet Member, member of Math, English, Science, Spanish, Social Studies and Music Honor Societies, SV Girls Tennis Captain and Chamber Choir singer. Nicole has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship from Drexel and the Emergency Aid of PA Scholarship.

Adrianna Campisi will continue her academic studies at Lycoming College, focusing on Astronomy and Spanish. Her career aspirations include working in research in the astronomy field. She is a member of the National, Math, Science, Spanish, Social Studies, English and Art Honor Societies. Adrianna is co-president of the Ultimate Frisbee Club, a 4-year tennis player and stage crew member, where she was nominated for a Cappie this year for sound. She has received multiple scholarships to help in her academic pursuits.

Kelsey Celestino will attend Bryn Mawr College where she will study Psychology in hopes of attending medical school, receive her M.D. and become an anesthesiologist. She is an AP scholar with distinction who is a member of the National, Tri-M, English, SocialStudies, Math, Science and Spanish Honor Societies. Kelsey is the President of the Choir, Captain of mock trial, and member of Hi-Q, Speech & Debate, SV Theatre, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and The Society of Torch and Laurel. Kelsey has been honored with hosting school Music shows, All-Delco Hi-Q, Outstanding Ensemble Member and Best Attorney, along with being awarded the John D. Unangst Memorial Scholarship and a Presi­dential Scholarship from Bryn Mawr.

Samuel Dykes will be attending Messiah University where he will major in Civil Engineering. His goal is to make a difference and help people as well as become a project leader. He is a member of the National Honor Society, is the captain of the SV Varsity Basketball team and participates in Track and Field. Samuel is the proud recipient of the James Schlosser Memorial Scholarship and multiple scholarships from Messiah University.

Erin Egan will be attending Duquesne University majoring in Physician Assistant Studies. She is a member of the National, Art, Science, English and Social Studies Honor Societies. She completed dual enrollment at EMT School, is a Marching Band student leader, and par­ticipates in the Medical Careers Program and stage crew. In her free time, Erin is on the Nemours Young Heroes Committee to raise money for cancer and blood disorders and is a camp counselor at Camp Rainbow. Erin has been presented with an academic scholarship from Duquesne.

Lily Egbert will further her education at The University of Southern California, where she will study Political Science and Journalism in the Thematic Honors Program. Lily hopes to become a lawyer or journalist, helping those less fortunate. Ideally, Lily would like to work on Capitol Hill for the Federal government. She is a member of the National, Social Studies, Math, Spanish, and Science Honor Societies and se1ves as Vice-President of the English Honor Society.. She played tennis and is an AP scholar. Lily was a National Questbridge Scholarship Semi-finalist and received a grant from USC to help with her education.

Giana Ellis will be continuing her education at The University of Pennsylvania focusing on Economics and Political Science. She hopes to attend law school with the ultimate goal of owning her own law firm. She is the Student Senate President where she presents at monthly School Board meetings, is National Honor Society Co-President, National English Honor Society Treasurer and a member of the Math, Social Studies and Science Honor Societies. Gianna has been Varsity Volleyball captain for two seasons and received 2nd Team All Ches­ Mont and All Delco Honorable Mention. She has played Varsity Lacrosse for four years and was captain of the team and Defensive MVP.  She was awarded the Aston Sports Hall of Fame Butch Ryan Scholar Athlete Award. Gianna is this year's class Valedictorian.

Hailey Hofmann will attend Duquesne University to study Forensic Science and Law. She aspires to become a Forensic Technician for the FBI. Hailey is a member of the National, Spanish, English, Math, Science, Tri-M and Social Studies Honor Societies. Her activities include sound board captain for stage crew, Drum Major and student leader for SV Marching Band and co-captain of the Hi-Q team. Duquesne is honoring Hailey with multiple scholarships to continue her education.

Reaksa Hun will continue her education studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Widener University. Upon receiving her degree, she plans to teach math and use what she learns to help and influence others. During her SV time, she has been involved in the Na­ tional, Spanish, Science, English and Math Honor Societies and is a PBIS Committee mem­ber.  Reaksa has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship from Widener.

Angela Jones will be studying at the University of Maine at Farmington. She hopes to revo­lutionize the animation industry to make more movies for older audiences and move away from the mindset that art is for kids. She is an active member of the MarchingBand where she has been student leader and section leader, a member of stage crew and has been a consistent honor roll recipient. Angela's art was shown in the Delaware County Regional Art Show and she was awarded academic and diversity scholarships from the University of Maine at Farmington.

Andrew Kmett will attend Ursinus College to study a field that excites and challenges him while preparing him for financial independence. He is a member of the National and Eng­ lish Honor Societies and a 3-year Varsity Football player who was named All Ches-Mont honorable mention. Ursinus has awarded him a Gateway Scholarship.

Kayden Maiorine will attend University of the Sciences studying Pharmacology and Toxicol­ogy. He plans to assist in the development of life-saving medications for those with incurable diseases and may attend medical school to become a doctor. Kayden is a member of Nation­ al, Math, Spanish, Science, Social Studies and Music Honor Societies. He is an AP scholar with honor, was a Pi\1EA District 12 qualifying percussionist and honored with two Cappies nominations for his role in Oklahoma. He was awarded various scholarships for his academic success.

Hannah McGroary is enrolled in the nursing program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her career goals include becoming a registered nurse and gaining her Master's of Science de­ gree in Nursing. She is a cabinet member of the National, President of the English and mem­ber of the Spanish, Science and Social Studies Honor Societies. Hannah is a member of the Class Committee and Unified TrackTeam, is a SV Volleyball Captain, coaches volleyball for 7th & 8th grades and is President of the Ultimate Frisbee Club. She was named a Sutton Scholar and awarded an academic scholarship from IUP.

Kathryn McLaughlin plans to investigate her options for the future by taking a gap year while working full time. She is a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies and is looking forward to her post-high school journey..

Bridget Neaery plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to study Nursing. Her career goals include acquiring her BSN, becoming an RN and eventually a nurse practitioner. She is a member of the National and Science Honor Societies, is a distinguished honor roll recipient, a member of class committee and was a HOSA competitor this year. She is certified with OSHA, Stop the Bleed, HIPPA and First Aid. Bridget participates in the Med Careers pro­gram, holds an after-school job and received a Presidential Scholar Award.

Madison Oreski will be studying Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. She would like to focus her career on sustainable energy and climate change. She is an AP scholar, an honor roll recipient and a member of the National, English, Spanish and Tri-M Honor Societies. She is a section leader for the award winning marching band, earning bronze and silver medals and also sings in the chamber choir.

Abigail Otsyina will be studying Psychology at The University of Delaware. She hopes to use her degree to help others. She is a member of the National, Science and Spanish Honor Societies, and has been a consistent honor roll recipient. Abigail is involved with the National African American Recognition Program and has received the John C. and Cara C. Haas Schol­arship and The University of Delaware Trustee Scholarship.

Darren Panusky will attend Pennsylvania State University majoring in Statistics. His goal is to become a great statistician to help big sports teams or businesses succeed with his analytical skills. Darren has been a consistent honor roll recipient and a member of National Honor Society. He is the recipient of a Chick-fil-A Remarkable Futures Scholarship.

Ella Peterson will be studying Bio-Physics at Rowan University. She aspires to become a medical dosimetrist and work with cancer treatment to help others. She is a member of the Math, English and Science Honor Societies and is a cabinet member of the National Honor Society. Ella is the Secretary of the Class of 2022 and a member of class committee, chamber choir and participates in the school musicals. She received a Good Citizen Award and merit scholarship from Rowan.

Caitlin Riley will attend Pennsylvania State University to study early childhood education in hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher. She is a member of the National, Social Studies and Spanish Honor Societies all while participating in SV soccer, choir, theater, dancing at Paul Klocke Studio, volunteering and fostering for Rags2Riches and working at Brew­ster's. Caitlin has many accolades, including winning Cappies for dancing in Cinderella and Oklahoma, JVMVP (10th) and captain of SV Varsity girls soccer, and being a member of the homecoming court. Caitlin is the recipient of multiple scholarships for her academic success.

Ava Shetter plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to study Architectural Engineering to learn how to design and create buildings to enhance standards of living for citizens. She is a member of the National, Science and Social Studies Honor Societies and hopes to use her education to become a member of an urban planning board.

Lauren Stuckey will continue her education at Villanova University where she plans to study Mechanical Engineering with minors in Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering. She is looking forward to being able to build animatronics for a big entertainment company and eventually work for NASA. She is a member of the Class Committee, National, Science, Math, Social Studies and Spanish Honor Societies and plays on the SV softball team. In her free time, Lauren is a violinist, runner and artist. She is the recipient of numerous academic schol­ arships for schools to which she applied.

Dior Sy plans to attend Pennsylvania State University and major in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. She aspires to become a veterinarian and open up an animal shelter. She is a member of the National, Science, Spanish, Math, English and Art Honor Societies. She is a black belt in karate, an honor roll recipient, member of the art club and enjoys volunteering time helping others.

Melana Timmes is enrolled in the nursing program at Coastal Carolina University, receiving the President's Scholar Award. She plans to become a nurse and focus on the emergency de­partment. She is a 4-year honor roll recipient, has been inducted into the National and Math (Treasurer) Societies, is a HOSA member and competitor and participates in Sun Valley Field Hockey, Basketball (captain & MVP) and Softball.

Monika Volz will be attending Bloomsburg University to become a nurse. She is a Rotary Youth Leadership Award and distinguished honor roll recipient, and co-captain of the Mock Trial Team. Monika was awarded an Academic Excellence Scholarship from Bloomsburg.

Grace Wright will be attending Immaculata University to study Chemistry in undergrad and would like to continue her education to get a PhD in order to research or teach at a university. She is a member of the National, Social Studies, Spanish, Science and English Honor Socie­ties. She is co-captain of Hi-Q, participates in debate, PBiS and stage crew and volunteers at To Love a Canine Rescue. Grace is an AP Scholar, received a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship and is this year's Salutatorian.
