Reading counts: at home and at the library

Reading Counts has significantly increased the number of books our elementary and middle school students are independently reading and dramatically improved their reading comprehension skills.  During the school year, teachers are able to review student data and conference with students to discuss their individual progress and needs.

We realize what a benefit this program has been for our students and are pleased to inform you that the program will be available during the summer months.  Students will be able to visit the elementary and middle school libraries within the district to check out books and independently take quizzes on the books they have read.  Or they can take the tests remotely at the reading counts landing page.

Progress will be tracked and reported to teachers in September.  Recognition for summer reading will take place when the students return to school, and will count towards individual or building reading totals for the 2021-2022 school year for all quizzes taken after July 1st, 2021

Additionally, Penn-Delco is providing students the ability to access our IXL adaptive learning software throughout the summer for free for all students. Students’ progress on this software throughout the summer will be recognized this upcoming fall when students return to school with special prizes for participants who log a significant amount of time utilizing the software. Students are welcome to utilize school computers at our elementary and middle school libraries for IXL during the hours and days listed below or at home on personal devices at any time.

Students visiting Penn-Delco libraries must be accompanied by an adult.

We cannot stress enough the importance of this program for your child.  Please make every effort to visit the school library or web landing page for Reading Counts throughout the summer and promote reading with your child.  If you have any questions regarding this program, contact your school office.
