In the most recent update of its school guidance, the Chester County Health Department (CCHD) has indicated that certain changes involving the wearing of masks while outdoors may be implemented.
Beginning Monday May 10th, students and staff engaging in “high exertion OUTDOOR activities, including but not limited to athletic, exercise or play activities” are not REQUIRED to wear a mask. While the practice will continue to be recommended, it is no longer a requirement under the CCHD guidance.
With respect to wearing a mask outdoors while engaging in high exertion activity, that choice remains up to parents and their child. Any student or staff who choose to continue wearing masks as extra protection while engaging in outdoor activities are encouraged and permitted to do so.
As vaccination rates continue to climb and more information about the spread of COVID-19 is confirmed, we expect additional communications from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Chester County Health Department (CCHD) that may lead to further updates to our mitigation measures. As always, we will follow the guidance from experts in the field of public health.
We encourage our families to continue to follow our health and safety protocols directing masking indoors, washing, and distancing as they have proved to reduce the risk of transmission. We will continue to adhere to all other health directives in the final weeks of our school year.
District Health and Safety Guides and also our Frequently Asked Questions are being updated to reflect these revised guidelines from the CCHD.
