Rapid testing information

The Penn Delco School District takes the health and safety of our students, staff, and their families very seriously. As such, in addition to our mitigation strategies of self-screening, masking, social distancing, and disinfecting to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus, the district will begin to offer COVID-19 rapid testing to students who become symptomatic in school.

This does not eliminate the need for screening your child each morning and keeping them home if symptomatic. We are pleased we can provide this added layer of mitigation and precaution for students who become symptomatic after arriving at school.

The program will use Abbott Laboratories BinaxNOW tests (provided free of charge by the federal government) in order to provide a rapid test result to aid in our combat against the virus. Tests will only be administered with your voluntary consent; parents and guardians will be encouraged to consent to have their child to take advantage of this opportunity.

As people gradually become vaccinated, effective mitigation efforts should continue, including masking, social distancing and disinfecting, as vaccinated individuals can still get and transmit the virus, although they are likely to be asymptomatic. If you are willing to provide consent for your child to participate in the testing, please review the information and complete the consent form and return the form and a copy of the QR code you create to the school nurse.
