The Sun Valley volley ball team had another exceptional year returning to district play this year. While the team swept in the first round of play against Gwynedd Mercy Academy, they fell in the semi-finals for the District 1, 3A championship against Villa Maria Academy. They were the last District 1, 3A public school left standing in their race for the states.
Athletic Director Patrick Rafferty acknowledged this was a special team:
"Our girls volleyball team has had a tremendous run, making it to the District 1 Semi-finals in back-to-back years," said Rafferty.
"The team has been lead by a strong group of 7 seniors and a very deep group of Juniors and underclassmen that have made them one of the best teams in all of District 1 Class 3A."
Led by seniors Hannah Vickers, Olivia Nickerson, Rachel DiCarlo, Rachel Patterson, Jessica Hastings, Rylie Jones, and Olivia Morgan, the team accomplished an impressive 16-6 record. And there is even more talent coming up through both the high school and middle school. Rafferty sees more excitement in the coming years:
"Head coach, Melissa Haines and her assistants Amanda Potter and Jillian Foster work really well together and do a great job of pushing all of our players to be the best that they can, both on the court and in the classroom," he said. "It has been a pleasure watching this team the last few years and I'm excited to see what the future holds for them."
