Vanguards Shine During Winter Sports Season

Sun Valley’s winter sports teams delivered an impressive season, with championships, school records, and standout individual performances highlighting the action. The Vanguards excelled across multiple sports, with Boys Basketball and Wrestling clinching Ches-Mont American Division titles, swimmers setting new records, and track athletes qualifying for state and national competitions. As the winter season wraps up, Sun Valley athletes are already looking ahead to a promising spring.

  • Boys Basketball won its second Ches-Mont American Division Championship this season, finishing with an impressive 18-4 record. The team secured a spot in the District Playoffs, where they battled hard but fell in the first round on a last-second buzzer-beater.
  • Diver Trevor Fursman qualified for the District 1 Championships, while several swimmers also earned district spots. The Girls 200M Medley Relay (Lucy McClellan, Marrah Lonnquist, Angela Taylor, and Mackenna Dormer) set a new school record.
  • Girls Basketball had their best season in 12 years, finishing with a 15-7 record and earning the #8 seed in the District 1 playoffs. They surprised many, except themselves, and had a tremendous season, making it into the playoffs but falling in the first round.
  • Indoor Track standout Manny Wahdan qualified for PA States and Nationals in the 60M hurdles, capping off an incredible season. Xavier Howard also impressed in the Long Jump, placing fifth at the Meet of Champions, earning a trip to States.
  • Wrestling secured its sixth straight Ches-Mont American Division Championship and sixth consecutive undefeated league season. The team also made history by qualifying for the State Duals Tournament for the first time, finishing among the top 12 teams in PA.
