Sun Valley's Jacob Carr Brings Home State Gold in Wrestling

The Sun Valley Vanguards had an outstanding day on the mats at the 2026 PIAA Wrestling Championships in Hershey on March 7, showcasing grit, skill, and determination on Pennsylvania’s toughest high school stage.

Sophomore Jacob Carr captured gold in the Class AAA 107‑pound division, earning Sun Valley’s first state title since Hunter Catka in 2020. Facing Canon McMillan’s 51-win freshman Lee Dreshman in the final, Carr scored a pair of near-fall points in the second period and secured an escape as time expired for a 3‑0 victory.

Junior Jameson Strickland also reached the state finals, competing at 148 pounds in the girls tournament for the second consecutive year. Strickland wrestled a strong match but fell 1‑0 to Chestnut Ridge’s Juliet Alt, earning a well-deserved silver medal.

The PIAA Wrestling Championships brought together the state’s top competitors, with hundreds of wrestlers battling through multiple rounds to reach the finals at the Giant Center in Hershey. Carr’s gold and Strickland’s silver highlighted the depth of talent on the Sun Valley squad and marked an incredible showing for the program.

Congratulations to both athletes, their coaches, and the entire wrestling team for representing Sun Valley with pride on the state stage!
