Pennell 5th graders got an extra boost as they prepare for their Science Fair thanks to a visit from 9th grade Honors Science students from Sun Valley High School.

Fresh off completing their own science fair projects, the high school students spent time answering questions, helping refine ideas, and supporting writing and research as Pennell students continue developing their projects. The mentorship added an authentic layer to the experience, giving 5th graders the opportunity to learn from older peers who recently navigated the same process.

This collaboration was created at the request of the 5th grade team and in partnership with the Sun Valley science department, connecting students across grade levels and strengthening learning throughout the district. The visit builds on the success of last year’s Science Fair and helped increase student confidence, engagement, and ownership in their work.
