Student Achievements Celebrated at Board Meeting
Penn-Delco School District had the honor of recognizing several outstanding students at the School Board meeting on March 25. Superintendent Dr. George Steinhoff led the celebrations, highlighting the hard work, dedication, and achievements of these students across various academic and athletic pursuits.
The students honored at the meeting, and their achievements, were:
- Aston 3rd grader Frankie DiCandia, who earned first place at the Pennsylvania State Invention Convention. His invention, the "Cozy Illuminator," is both a neck pillow and a reading light. Frankie competed against nearly 300 applications and delivered a 3-5 minute pitch to judges, ultimately securing the gold medal.
- Sun Valley sophomore Jameson Strickland, whose impressive achievements this year include winning first place at both the District 1-District 12 Championship and the Southeast Regional Championship. She then went on to finish second in the state tournament, earning a silver medal.
- Sun Valley senior Brandon Carr, who finished his senior year with a 50-3 record, becoming Sun Valley's winningest wrestler in school history with a 160-21 career record. He placed first at both the district tournament and the Southeast Regional Championship, qualifying for the state tournament and earning a silver medal.
- Sun Valley senior Manny Wahdan, who had an outstanding season in the 60m hurdles. In his first attempt at the event, Manny ran an 8.59, qualifying for both the State Championships and the Meet of Champions. At the Meet of Champions, he won the gold medal with a time of 7.98. Manny also set a new personal record at the State Championships, finishing 5th with a time of 7.88, which is the 20th best time in the country. His impressive performance at States earned him a spot at Nationals, where he finished 17th overall, capping off an incredible season.
We are incredibly proud of our students' accomplishments and are excited to celebrate their success with our community. #penndelcoproud
