Universal Free Breakfast Launches in Elementary and Middle Schools

Universal Free Breakfast
  • Penn-Delco School District is pleased to announce the launch of a universal breakfast program backed by a state increase in funding to provide universal free breakfast to Pennsylvania's 1.7 million public school students, regardless of income.  Thanks to this increase, every elementary and middle school student, regardless of income, is eligible to receive free breakfast at Aston, Coebourn, Parkside, and Pennell Elementary Schools as well as Northley Middle School.  Because Sun Valley High School does not participate in the National School Lunch Program, there will be no free breakfast at the high school.  The middle school program will launch on January 29, 2024.

  • These meals meet federal nutrition standards and our staff provides students with a variety of meals daily.  Menus appear at the same link where you find lunch menus: pdsd.nutrislice.com.  Each school has its own distribution system as students arrive to begin their day.  While some schools serve breakfast choices in their cafeteria, other schools have instituted a grab-and-go system, allowing students to take time to enjoy a meal during homeroom.

Take time to review the menus each week, and discuss whether your child would like to take advantage of universal free breakfast.

Late Openings and Early Dismissals

  •
There will be no universal breakfast served on half-days.  These dates are in your activity calendar and are listed as follows:

    December 22
    January 12
    March 7 - 8
    May 3
    May 24

If your child is participating in universal breakfast, please be sure to offer breakfast at home on these days.  Additionally, breakfast will not be offered on delayed opening days (due to weather or other unplanned emergencies).  One-hour or two-hour delays will prevent us from distributing breakfast in a timely manner.
