A message from Interim Principal Dr. Danielle Murray

Dani Murray
  • Dear Pennell Elementary Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the entire Pennell Elementary staff, welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. It is with great pride that I join Pennell Elementary as your Interim Principal.  I look forward to partnering with you to ensure all children learn and grow. Together, we will ensure that we maintain our tradition of excellence and community that makes Pennell such a special place.

My role as interim principal provides me with the opportunity to get to know the students, families, and community that make Pennell the remarkable school that it is. I am thrilled that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I am excited to work with you and your children. Pennell Elementary will continue to work diligently to meet the needs of all of our students. Our rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum develops skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration, with high expectations for all students.

Pennell provides opportunities for students to grow both academically and socially. Extracurricular activities such as chorus, band, Math 24, Reading Olympics, newspaper, safety patrol, and student council are provided for students to become involved. As recipients of state recognition for the implementation of positive behavior programming (PBIS) with fidelity at Tiers 1 and 2, we will work to instill tools for self-regulation and emotional wellness. Students are recognized daily and monthly for modeling these positive values where students cherish our school values of being “respectful, responsible, and safe!”

I am honored to help support the dedicated and hard-working staff at Pennell. All that I have witnessed from teachers and staff, point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and committed staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials, and updating student files. Our hard-working and attentive custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. Additionally, our much-appreciated PTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and support exciting events and programs.

I continue to be impressed by the efforts of the Pennell Elementary PTO as they support our students and staff. I encourage families to become actively involved in the efforts of the PTO, as their fundraising supports many of the assemblies, events, and items that positively influence the students’ experiences at Pennell. I was thrilled to see the arrival of the Pennell t-shirts that our amazing PTO provided for each of our students to kick off the 2021-22 school year.

We are excited to be welcoming our students back for 5 days of face-to-face instruction. Please review our board approved health and safety plan if you have any questions. I want to acknowledge that there will be some students and families with anxiety about returning back to school.  If you have any specific questions, need information about practices and protocols, or have the need to speak with a counselor, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to assist you!

Please consult our district website at www.pdsd.org for all pertinent information including school supply lists, the student handbook, and teacher Schoology pages. I look forward to this school year as staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted in our care are ready for life. I look forward to an amazing year!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Danielle Murray
