Penn-Delco parent involvement policy
PENN-DELCO SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE 1 DISTRICT PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
The mission of the Penn-Delco School District is to enable all students to achieve, succeed, and excel. Our primary focus is on student achievement. The district has implemented academic standards in an effort to stress high expectations for all students.
The Penn-Delco School District believes that in order to achieve our mission, parents need to be aware of the district’s programs and involved in support of those programs both in school and at home.
In order to achieve that mission with the parents in the Title 1 schools an annual meeting will be held. Title 1 parents will be invited to review the current parent involvement policy and make recommendations for revisions as needed. At that meeting, parents will be invited to give input as to how we could work toward more parent involvement. The surveys from the previous year will be shared with the parents to use as one measure to help determine the strengths and note the needs of the current program.
Parents can stay informed on a regular basis through the use of district web site, bulk email, online grading system, teacher web pages, and classroom apps. This is ongoing and current information that parents can access at any time.
At Back to School Night in the fall all parents are provided with the curriculum for the grade level from the classroom teacher. The assessments are outlined in this presentation and again personally at parent conferences. The district elementary report card is standards based so the proficiency levels and the child’s progress toward meeting those standards are provided three times each year.
To provide additional support to the parents of the Title 1 students these resources will be provided:- An annual fall meeting will be held in conjunction with each school’s Back to School night. At this meeting, the Title 1 Supervisor and/or the Title 1 teacher will present an overview of the Title 1 program and an outline of the instructional plan for the students.
- The Title 1 teacher webpage will provide parents with information on how to help their child at home. The content standards for the grade level will be listed which will assist parents in understanding the instructional plan being taught in the Title 1 classroom. Included on the webpage will be links to internet sites that can provide additional at home ideas and activities. The webpage will be updated monthly.
- Notifications of events and progress will be sent regularly through a classroom app.
- Parents can visit their child’s Title 1 classroom during the school’s open house in November.
- All teachers have an email address and voice mail so that parents can easily communicate with the Title 1 teacher at any time throughout the year with questions and concerns.
In order to provide opportunities to discuss each student’s progress at the elementary level parents are invited to conferences in the fall and the spring. Conference times are available during the school day and in the evening. Between parent conference times written progress reports are sent home at the 2ndand 3rdtrimesters with report cards. An annual survey will be sent home to the parents in the Title 1 Program. This survey will ask parents to provide feedback on the value of the parent conferences, the webpage, and progress reports. The survey will invite parents to offer suggestions to increase parent involvement in the program. This policy will be revised as needed by meeting with Title 1 parents and reviewing the annual surveys. The Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy will be distributed to parents in a format that is understandable and in the appropriate language.
