WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD IN SOCIAL STUDIES
    • Ask your child every day what he/she did in social studies class.  Encourage specifics! Ask them to show you. Parent involvement is a key to student success.
    • Ask them about songs, artifacts, or experiential exercises that they may have engaged with and what the purpose was behind the activity.
    • Ask to see your child’s homework and check for completeness.
    • Have them show you the work they’ve been doing in class and explain it to you.  Explaining to and teaching others helps to solidify and extend one’s own learning.
    • Always ask your child to justify their responses.
    • Reinforce problem solving skills at home.
    • Encourage your child to keep a well organized notebook, arranged according to the teacher’s expectations.
    • Highlight the importance of reasoning through a difficult assignment. A challenging assignment offers an opportunity to learn
