WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD IN MATHEMATICS

    • Ask your child every day what he/she did in math class.  Encourage specifics! Ask them to show you. Parent involvement is a key to student success.
    • Ask to see your child’s homework and check for completeness.
    • Have them show you the work they’ve been doing in class and explain it to you.  Explaining to and teaching others helps to solidify and extend one’s own learning.
    • Always ask your child to tell you how they solved a problem. Being asked to communicate their reasoning and problem solving strategies will better prepare them for our state assessment and for the workplace.
    • Reinforce problem solving and skills at home.
    • Encourage your child to keep a well organized notebook, arranged according to the teacher’s expectations.
    •  Highlight the importance of reasoning through a problem where the solution is not obvious to them. A challenging problem is an opportunity to learn.
