Sun Valley College Application Process
General Application Information
The college application process begins with finalizing your list through Naviance
Once on the Naviance log-in screen, follow the steps below:
-Enter username (your email address) and password (self selected)
If you forget your password, click on "forgot my password" on the sign-in page. To change your username, stop by guidance or email your counselor.
-Click the Colleges tab
-Click “colleges I'm thinking about”
-Click “add to this list” at the top of the screen
-Click "lookup" and select the schools you are considering
If you have not yet done research to determine which schools you
want on your list, visit the college planning section of our website.
-Click "add colleges" at the bottom of the screen
-To begin applying, click a college's name and then click "apply online"
This will direct you to the admissions section of the college's website. Colleges have different procedures,
so make sure to follow the specific instructions for each individual school to which you are applying.
You can also just google the college. Application information is usually found in undergraduate admissions.
-Each school you apply to will require an official copy of your transcript
-Check if your schools require teacher recommendations and/or a secondary school report form
Most schools now accept these supplemental forms electronically. However, if your school instructs you to print
anything, bring forms to the designated recipients. Visit the section on
college recommendations for clarification.
-Many schools requiring the SAT or ACT only accept scores directly from the testing company
Check individual school websites for the appropriate codes.
You can specify if you want unofficial scores sent when you request your transcript through Naviance.
The Common Application
Hundreds of colleges and universities accept the common application which allows students to complete just one application to apply to multiple schools. If more than one school on your list accepts the common app, it is an appropriate option for you. Click here to see the common app member schools.
Applying to Penn State
Penn State requires counselors to complete their secondary school reports electronically and for transcripts to be sent via fax. No Penn State transcript requests can be processed until students have completed the online application.
Paper Applications
The majority of colleges have their applications available online, but in the event that a school only accepts paper applications or if you are not able to apply online, you can either mail your application on your own or all items can be mailed together if you bring your application to the guidance office no more than one day after requesting your transcript.
